The club was founded in 1978 to cater for the needs of "Old Car" people in the West of Scotland.
The S.W.T.V.C. held its first car rally in 1979, when about 30 cars took part in what was to become our traditional June rally.
One of the early aims of the club's founders was the concept that the annual rally should be a driving event, and not concours event. The rally therefore usually incorporates regularity, navigation and observation sections.
The club has now existed for over 30 years, with many of the original members still actively involved in club events. Since 1996 has been a Limited Company run by a board of volunteer directors. Club membership grew steadily over the first decade, from a band of 10, to around 200 members.
The objects of the SWTVC have remained constant and are :-
The annual autojumble was a major event within the club. This event took place for many years at Doune, the site of the motor Museum, and after that closed we moved to a number of different locations. The most recent autojumble was held in 2007, but unfortunately due to modern communication methods it was no longer viable.
Ownership of an 'eligible' vehicle is not essential, several of our members simply have an interest in older vehicles, and that is all that you require to join our number.
Benefits of membership include a regular 'News Bulletin', events throughout the year, the main summer event being the June rally, and the winter events being of a social rather than motoring nature. In addition to all these, as a member of the SWTVC you will receive the Scottish Vintage Vehicle Federation's, which includes a calendar of all motoring events in Scotland.
If you wish to join the SWTVC, you would be most welcome, and please visit our membership page for more details.
