SAE & multigrade oils.
Multigrade oils were partly developed for engines with efficient filter systems, since it carries slurry etc throughout the engine then filtered. And as a consequence are unsuitable for older engines without efficient filtering.
SAE straight grade oils are suitable for these earlier engines because they do not carry slurry throughout the engine but allow all debris to fall down into engine sump.
SAE30 / 40 & 20w/50 multigrades are still carried in stock by:
