EDITORIAL:

Well, here we are, late summer and still waiting for a spell of decent weather.

The weather on Sunday morning was absolutely dreadful but I had been looking forward to the Biggar event and decided to make the journey in the Morris on the assumption that rain as heavy as that could not last long. I was wrong, not only did it persist, if anything it became heavier. It literally did not stop all day. Indeed, I began to wonder if I would find the event cancelled when I got to Biggar.

I did not need to worry about that, the show was in full swing and a lot busier than I would have expected in such conditions. Pleased to see quite a few of our members also in attendance with their cars.

I found it quite reassuring to know that I was not the only one to venture out in an ancient car in weather that Gene Kelly would have hesitated to go out in!

BBQ & SUMMER RUN 2020:

Forms completed and sent to Culttybraggan Camp in Comrie.

SUMMER RUN & LUNCH on 4th August.

Event cancelled due to numerous roadworks and diversions.

RSAC THREE LOCHS RUN:

Just a reminder that this takes place this Sunday (18thAugust). The entry list has been prepared but I believe late entries will be accepted.

2019 Kirkcudbright Classic Car Rally:

A quick reminder that this event takes place on Sunday 25th August at the Harbour square.Free entry and no need to book.

BUS RUN & AFTERNOON TEA:

This takes place on Sunday 22nd September.

Ken has booked Dumfries House for 40 people to enjoy an afternoon tea and tour of the house.

Trip to by Dumfries House by classic bus. Leaving Milngavie with 2nd pick-up at Silverburn.

Reserve your place early to guarantee a seat on the bus, any overspill can make their own way to the property.

SWTVC 40th ANNIVERSARY WEEK-END AWAY TO CRIEFF HYDRO:

Sat 26 & Sun 27th October

Ronnie Gordon and I took a run to Crieff to ensure all arrangements were in place and were pleased to find everything in order.

However, I received word last week that Stephen Leckie has been appointed LordLieutenant of Perthshire which requires his attendance at Buckingham Palace over this weekend. Consequently, his “Coffee and Calories” event where he displays his car collection will have to be rescheduled. It is hoped we will still be able to have a private viewing of the cars but, at this time, this cannot be guaranteed.

In view of this we will all meet at Mingavie at 10.30 for an 11.00 departure and travel to Crieff using rural roads.

Our return on Sunday will be by way of St. Fillans and Lochearnhead.

We will detour to Balquidder and stop at the Munro Inn Strathyre for soup and sandwiches. A full route will be issued at the departure point.

The rescheduled “Coffee and Calories” event will be held on Saturday 12th October and Stephen has issued an invitation to any members who would like to come along. (See News Flash)

Incidentally, there are still a couple of rooms available if anyone would like to attend.

AUTOJUMBLE Saturday 5th October:

Ian confirms our booking is in place and details will be issued nearer the time.

Why not have a rummage in the shed and look out some unwanted items which might just be the Holy Grail that someone is looking for?

AND FINALLY:

As a service to our members I am giving away this useful oil detector sheet for use on your MG or, indeed, any British car.

That’s all folks,

Hope to see you at the RSAC event on Sunday.

Ronnie Johnston.
